“Medill taught me how to turn curiosity into content. Dick Hainey was a stickler in all the right ways. From punctuation to story structure, he laid the building blocks for impactful stories. Lessons from our law and ethics classes endure, albeit in different forms. Chicago journalism of the early 1980s provided a high standard to emulate. My journalism assignments pushed me to explore areas of the city I would not have visited in my four years at NU. Most of all, I value the Medill distribution requirements that allowed me to take a variety of classes in areas such as biology, computer programming, economics, history and art. This varied curriculum made me a more versatile journalist, and continues to inform my professional interests.”
