“Before going on Teaching Newspaper as juniors, we had to take Copyediting the previous quarter. Demand for Winter Quarter TN—a chance to escape Evanston to a warmer locale—was the highest. When Medill held a signup for preferences on when to take Copyediting, students like me (those shallow enough to prioritize weather) practically camped in Fisk overnight. I arrived a few hours before the office opened, and at least 15 people, many armed with blankets and pillows, were already there. I settled in for the wait, thinking, ‘This is nuts.’ But I also thought, ‘This is pretty cool.'”
