“Before I arrived at Fisk Hall that summer of 1983, I thought of myself as someone who knew how to use words as tools of communication. But a short year later, after earning my master’s in magazine journalism, I was able to call myself a journalist. Once I left campus, I found myself returning to and relying on what I learned from my professors in my later roles as reporter, editor, publisher, columnist and finally, author. Everything I needed to succeed in a profession that relies on words came from what I learned at Medill. Happy 100!”
